About the composition
Gustav Mahler: Adagietto from Symphonie No 5 for 9 cellos
In this version the first violin part is written in the original pitch meaning that it has to be played very high up on the fingerboard or on the E string of a five string cello or using artificial harmonics; definitely a challenge. The double bass part is also noted in the original pitch: the cello tuning has to be lowered and since the part is written in scordatura it is played as written but sounds different i.e. at a lower pitch)
