About the composer
Orestis PapaioannouOrestis Papaioannou was born in Sitia in 1993 and grew up in Edessa (Northern Greece), where he took his first musical steps at the municipal music school, earning degrees in harmony, counterpoint, and clarinet. Traditional music in the Greek provinces is generally more culturally ingrained than the so-called Western classical tradition; this dichotomy between two musical worlds was typical during his upbringing and significantly contributed to his open-mindedness towards diverse musical influences.
In addition to a master's degree in composition, which he completed with top honors under Christos Samaras at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and a master's/concert exam in music under Dieter Mack at the Lübeck Academy of Music, he is currently pursuing a doctorate at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. He has also attended masterclasses with renowned composers such as Michael Finnissy, Oliver Schneller, and Phillip Mainz.
