David FunckThe Bohemian musician David Funck wrote in the 17th century “Stricturae Viola di Gambicae”. This was a collection of 43 four-part dance movements for viol consort. In the publishing company Hauke Hack you can find all 43 movements in 4 suites. The clefs are changed to convinient clefs for cellists.
About the composition
David Funck's Sonata Suite became popular with cellists through the first recording by the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic. In the viol edition, the frequent use of the alto clef (viola clef) was a hindrance to cellist performance. In this edition, exclusively the bass, tenor, and treble clefs have been used.
Movements: Fuga - Sarabande 1 - Adagio - Allemande - Courante - Air - Sarabande 2 - Gigue
Note: The “12 Berlin cellists” play the movements in a different order and include the Gigue from the 2nd Suite.
