About the composer

David Funck

The Bohemian musician David Funck wrote in the 17th century “Stricturae Viola di Gambicae”. This was a collection of 43 four-part dance movements for viol consort. In the publishing company Hauke Hack you can find all 43 movements in 4 suites. The clefs are changed to convinient clefs for cellists.

About the composition

David Funck's Suite 2 is a compilation of a further 10 movements in D major from the collection "Stricturae Viola di Gambicae," which comprises a total of 43 dance movements. According to M. Ruhnke (MGG), it was tradition at the time for players to compile their own suite from the collection. Accordingly, a new compilation of Ed. 16 and Ed. 20 can now also be created according to individual taste. Incidentally, "the 12 Berliners" played the last movement from the 2nd Suite (Gigue) instead of the Gigue from the Sonata Suite.

Movements: Sonate - Allemande - Courante - Bransle - Amener - Ballo - Sarabande 1 - Gavotte - Sarabande 2 - Gigue
