About the composition
Edward Elgar: Salut d´Amour op. 44 (Arrangement for 7 cellos by Hauke Hack)
This arrangement was created at the request of Franziska Batzdorf, principal cellist of the Dortmund Philharmonic, who performed Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto with the Dortmund Philharmonic at the Dortmund Concert Hall in 2018 and wanted to play "Salut d'amour" as an encore with "her" cello section.
The idea of creating a connection between the two pieces and transitioning from a section of the cello concerto's introduction, with its serious character, into the lush "Salut d'amour" proved successful, judging by the audience's reaction.
Salut d'Amour can, of course, also be played in any other context or without any connection to another piece.
The first performances took place on October 23 and 24, 2018 at the Dortmund Concert Hall with Franziska Batzdorf, Risto Rajakorpi, Emanuel Matz, Florian Sebald, Markus Beul, Andrei Simion and Hauke Hack.
