About the composition

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: “Hebe deine Augen auf” and “Denn er hat seinen Engeln befohlen…” from the oratorium “Elijah”, arranged by Hauke Hack; Edition No.58, score and 6 parts (each for two cellos).

I have taken up an idea of the highly respected Wilhelm Kaiser-Lindemann and am publishing two movements from Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”. The movements “Hebe deine Augen auf…” (“Raise your eyes...”) and “Denn er hat seinen Engeln befohlen...” (For he commanded his angels…”) have been transposed into a key so that they can be performed one after the other. Really heavenly music. One movement is a trio, in the original for 2 sopranos and contralto in D major and the other movement is for double quartet with accompaniment in G major in an arrangement for 12 cellos. My work consisted in transposition from various C key signatures and providing bowings.
