About the composition

Martin Heider: Suite "Vibravida" for 6 cellos and double bass ad libitum, a seven-movement work.

"Vibravida" was premiered in its original form at the "frisch gestrichen 2003" concert in Dortmund by Andreas Arndt, Nicola Heinrich, Beate Starken, Ann Engels, Martina Plum and Hauke ​​Hack. The score was finally ready for publication in 2011.
The reason it took so long: besides time constraints, there was the challenge of successfully addressing the following issue: in 2002, I asked the composer to arrange his suite so that all the parts would be equally prominent. I had two brilliant movements by Rakov for cello quartet in mind as a model. Martin Heider had already progressed further with the composition than I realized and subsequently redistributed the parts; this proved unhelpful during performance, as the melodic shifts often sounded disjointed. In close consultation with the composer, I reorganized the piece back to the first draft, which, unfortunately, had not been saved anywhere. Many small corrections and more precise dynamic markings were made before its completion. We had a lot of fun playing the suite back then, and I hope that other colleagues will enjoy it as well.
