Hauke Hack (*1967) is primarily a cellist, playing in a professional orchestra, organizing and performing in cello ensembles and other chamber music groups, giving courses, conducting a large amateur string orchestra, and occasionally composing music. His compositions and cello ensemble arrangements are created for various celebrations, specific concerts, or dedicated to individual performers. Meander was written for his daughter Anouchka Hack.
He studied composition with Günther Cellarius (Clara Schumann Music School) and Prof. Manfred Reiter (Cologne University of Music).
About the composition
“Where is the train station, please?” and “This is the cello police!” were written for two cello students who participated in “Jugend musiziert” at a very young age.
The two miniatures require the young player to be bold and expressive in their use of sound; various effects are prescribed in a fixed sequence. The timing can be customized. Particular concentration is required in “Bahnhof,” for example, to allow a harmonic to fade away slowly while the voice simultaneously swells to a “sh…” before being abruptly interrupted by a foot stamp. Surprise effects such as loud shouts or apparent biting of the cello are intended to add to the fun of the performance.

“Cellopolizei” has already been successfully performed in “Jugend musiziert” in age group 1a, and “Bahnhof” in age group 1b.
