About the composition
Originally "Irini" was a piano piece which Ruediger Clauss wrote in 2015 as part of his participation in a composition competition. The task was to write a piano piece approximately five minutes long, incorporating a Morse code. The word to be coded was the Greek word "Irini" which means peace.
The Morse code rhythm for "Irini" is:

This results in a total of 13 eighth notes which explains the constant alternation of time signatures between 4/4 and 5/8.
The piece is designed so that this code runs continuously, sometimes recognizable as an imitation of a Morse code signal, sometimes embedded in elegiac sections.
